Need an application to convert documents? See
Convert File
Programs (for non-programmers)
WordConverterX
(WCX) is a file convert component/DLL designed to assist you, the developer, to
quickly add a document conversion utility to your application. A tool
like this can be very helpful when the native binary format of Word/Excel
documents is not acceptable. HTML, Text, RTF, and CSV are amongst the favorite
file formats requiring conversion. |

|

In addition to doing file conversion, WCX also adds
enhanced features and basic data massaging methods to further enhance its
usefulness. For example, whole directories and sub-directories of files
may be specified to be converted. Furthermore, after conversion is done,
special processing can be performed on
the converted files. Some of these special processing methods include
concatenation of all files converted, and removal of empty lines. If you
have your own special processing you would like done, then WCX facilitates
this by keeping an internal array of the fully qualified path of the
converted files.
For those who are focusing their conversion efforts
in the realm of spreadsheet files, you'll be pleasantly surprised. WCX
has special processing methods to
concatenate, crop and massage comma
delimited files. This allows you to specify what sheet(s), row(s), and/or
column(s) that you may be interested in extracting.
WCX encapsulates all the details required for quick
integration. Furthermore, two sample Visual Basic applications are
provided to get you up to speed quickly with this convert component. Both Visual Basic sample programs
do similar things, however one demonstrates using an convert component,
and the other the convert DLL (Dynamic Link Library) interface. Although you may
not be using Visual Basic, the approach for all development environments
will be similar.
Simply install the product, and add
the conversion component - conversion DLL to your development environment. Once in place the
routines can be accessed to programmatically convert Word, Excel or other
file types. The code required to integrate this component in an
application is relatively small considering the functionality it provides.
Please Note: This product automates
MS Word or Excel to convert the files. Therefore MS Word or Excel will be
required. The user is encouraged to make
sure Word or Excel is properly licensed on the PC.
