EXAMPLE FILES

To quickly get you up and running, many examples were included with this software. See the Help\Getting Started menu item for all available examples. Alternatively, you can go to the File\Open Conversion Job (CTRL-O) menu item to open the examples.

NOTE: You can get to the example files within Windows Explorer by going to this folder:

%appdata%\SoftInterface, Inc\TXL Wizard\

The output from all provided examples goes into this folder:

%appdata%\SoftInterface, Inc\TXL Wizard\Examples-Output-Folder\

These files can be read and written to allowing you to test freely. We highly encourage you to run the examples and look at the input/output files (before and after running). This allows you to examine the raw files (profile/recipes/markings) used to generate the output.

NOTE: Most of the examples have empty XLS and XLSX files installed in the output folder. Although these workbooks are empty, they have some formatting. This will illustrate how TXL Wizard can import your text file into a pre-formatted Excel workbook (this applies to the Recipe and Marked Up methods only). Add formula's and graphs and you've got yourself a powerful way to quickly make fancy reports.

Restore Original Example Files

If you ever want to restore the original example files a copy has been installed in the folder below:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Softinterface, Inc\TXL Wizard\

Simply Copy and Paste them back to this folder:

%appdata%\SoftInterface, Inc\TXL Wizard\

EXAMPLE 1 - Profile Method

Example 1 illustrates the PROFILE method of conversion. MS Excel is not used making this method EXTREMELY FAST.

To begin, take a look at the input file and profile by clicking the Edit Input File.. and Edit/Manage Profiles buttons. Then press F5 to begin conversion. To see resulting output file press the space bar/Edit Output File button.

How to do this example step by step within the user interface

 A) Select Example1.TXT as the input file. Example1.TXT is a raw data file that contains a fixed width format.

 B) Specify any output file you like, for example:

%appdata%\Softinterface, Inc\TXL Wizard\Examples-Output-Folder\Example1.CSV

%appdata%\Softinterface, Inc\TXL Wizard\Examples-Output-Folder\Example1.XLS

%appdata%\Softinterface, Inc\TXL Wizard\Examples-Output-Folder\Example1.XLSX

 C) Choose Use a Profile and select Example-1-Profile.

EXAMPLE 2 - Recipe Method Many Tables

Example 2 shows how to use the RECIPE method of conversion.  To begin, take a look at the input file and recipe files by clicking the appropriate Edit buttons. Then press F5 to begin conversion. To see resulting output file press the space bar/Edit Output File button.

How to do this example step by step within the user interface

 C) Choose Use a Recipe and select Example2.RCP

EXAMPLE 3 - Recipe Method Single Table No End Tag

Example 3 also shows how to process a text file with no ending tag with the RECIPE method. That is, a text file that has nothing to mark the end of it. You'll notice in the recipe that the ReadStartLine and ReadEndLine are the same (that's the trick). The number of possible rows can be from 1 to ReadEndLineOffset, which in this case is set to 1000. You can make that number as large as the number of rows you anticipate your input files will have.

To begin, take a look at the input file and recipe files by clicking the appropriate Edit buttons. Then press F5 to begin conversion.

To see resulting output file press the space bar/Edit Output File button.

How to do this example step by step within the user interface
